and i see this contribution every day, all around. like at the magnificent gurdwara sahibleamington, where i saw for myself the values of sikhism – of compassion, peace and equality– in practice. and across the country i see how sikh and asian businessmen and women areboosting the economy by creating jobs and opportunities. but this contribution is not just arecent thing it goes back many, many years and was never more starkly demonstrated than 100years ago during the first world war.
just last month we commemorated the indian soldiers, many of whom were sikh, who foughtbravely alongside the allies in the battle of neuve chapelle in northern france. i pay tribute tothose men who travelled far from home and who fought and died with their comrades in thefight for freedom. we will never let their sacrifice be forgotten.
so at this important time, let us commemorate the birth of a great religion, let us give thanksfor everything the sikh community does for britain and let us celebrate the successful multi-ethnic, multi-faith democracy country that we are.

When I spent much of my time preparing for my lessons, trying my best to make my lessons vivid and interesting, the teaching effect and feedback was not that I had expected. Moreover, when I was willing and eager to teach them all that I’ve learned, their abilities of English were still mediocre. I was looking for the reasons. And I was always asking myself: Am I good and successful? How can I be good and successful?
There were of course many complicated reasons and factors. And in my opinion, whether I am good or not, includes many factors such as my knowledge, my personality, my quality, my methods, teaching art and so on. Absolutely, to be a good and successful English teacher is not an easy job. I need to have an excellent command of English myself to make my students appreciate me and enjoy my class. I need to have the abilities to provide a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere and environment for the students’ study. I have to adopt efficient and various teaching methods to my students’ level. I need to develop my teaching art and skills. I should make full of each student’s ability and always encourage them to give them confidence. Therefore, “Live and learn” and “never too old to learn” have been the mottos I’ve adopted. I must improve my own abilities and skills of teaching, to keep up with the rapid development of our information age and society.
Is that enough for me to be good and successful now? No, that’s far from enough.
In spite of all the above aspects of good teaching is the primary and the most important requirement: love teaching and love my students.
I’ve learned to be the students’ teacher, their elder sister, their friend, their mother and so on. I show my care and love for them. Whenever they are in trouble, being sick, feeling blue or in a bad mood, I am the person that will try to take care of them, talk with them or try to help them balance themselves in good condition. I respect and trust them. When they fall in love with sb., quarrel with friends, cannot get along well with parents, etc. I’ll analyze the pros and cons, the advantages and disadvantages, and give them some opinions or suggestions. I sympathize with and understand them. When they break the rules or do something wrong carelessly, I will help them out of trouble instead of scolding them. I am always strict with them and also place high and enthusiastic hopes on them to make them be strict with themselves and be confident of themselves.
Everyone needs love. Love is one of the most magical and wonderful feelings in the world. Teachers’ love for their students can make the impossible become possible. The love can change the disvalued into valued. The love can win the students’ love and respect in return. The love can motive the students to work hard. The love can promote the students to better and better in many ways. The love can make the students open their heart to let us know what they are doing, what they are thinking about and how they are feeling.
An English teacher is a very ordinary post, but the undertaking of English teaching is so great since there are so many English teachers dedicating to it silently and selflessly. I am proud to be one of them and I am proud to dedicate all my life to my beloved career of English teaching.

However, I think the basic posture the Americans are taking needs to be changed. That is, Americans tend to assume that the Chinese are all to blame, and they also demand quick changes from the Chinese. I think what we really need is a little more patience and effort to understand each other. Mutual understanding is indispensable today when international interdependence is the rule.

Ladies and Gentlemen: My topic is Honesty. As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon's tooth. This is a true story. /chuzhong/chusan/ 65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon.
He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure. In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon's mouth. He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 20xx, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies.
He received a warm welcome. When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one's error. Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. In the center of your heart and my heart there's a wirelestation : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .
When the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Good afternoon !Today the topic of my speech is “Discover myself”
I think each people is unique.Everyone is different .
I don’t need to envy others，because I think I am the only one in the world.
So do u really know yourself?
In my parents’ eyes,I am a naughty boy. In my friends’ eyes, I am a friendly boy.In my teachers’ eyes,I am a boy which progresses.
But how do I think of myself?
I don’t know.
Everone has merits and shortcomings. we need to discover our disadvantages and get rid of it . However, Lookers-on see most often.So mentors are necessary.
In elementary school, I didn’t know the importance of studying.I just know playing all day.One day my english teacher told me（that）she thought I was a intelligent boy.I was shocked by what she said.I didn’t do well in my english subject at that time.I was encouraged by what she said.In other words,what she said made me exicted.Since then,I fell in love with English.I started to read some English novels and listen to music.My english teacher taught me patiently and encouraged me to insist on doing these.I was interested in english.I found it was easy to learn english.It does’t like I thought it would be difficult.Maybe I had talent in learning english.However,if I don’t listen to my english teacher.Maybe I would get lost.
Everybody should have confidence in discovering yourselves,although it is a difficult journey.When there is a will,there is a way.
